Author Heather Blanton

“Heather Blanton is blessed with a natural storytelling ability, an ‘old soul’ wisdom, and wide expansive heart. Her characters are vividly drawn, and in the western settings where life can be hard, over quickly, and seemingly without meaning, she reveals Larger Hands holding everyone and everything together.”

I write Christian Historical Western Romance. Yes, that often entails the use of firearms in a threatening manner. Sometimes there are fistfights. There may even be (gasp!) politically incorrect but historically accurate language. But also, there is always an inspirational message and strong allusions (at least) to the gospel

The Blanton Posse

I grew up in the mountains of Western North Carolina on a steady diet of Bonanza, Gunsmoke, and John Wayne Westerns. My most fond childhood memory is of sitting next to my daddy, munching on popcorn, and watching Lucas McCain unload that Winchester! My daddy also taught me to shoot and, trust me, I can sew on buttons with my rifle.

I love exploring out West, especially ghost towns and museums. I’ve walked parts of the Oregon Trail, ridden horses through the Rockies, climbed to the top of Independence Rock, and even held an outlaw’s note in my hand. Now, that’s living the dream!

My novels are all Christian Western Romance because this is the genre that lets me write about strong, pioneer women and men who struggle to find God and then live out their faith in real ways. Like good old-fashioned Westerns, there is always justice, a moral message, American values, lots of high adventure, unexpected plot twists, and more than a touch of suspense. Of course, romance is always a strong element in my stories because it is such a beautiful gift from God and a perfect reflection of how he loves us: sacrificially and lavishly. My stories aren’t preachy or cheesy, but I hope they are inspirational, heart-warming, realistic, illuminating, and glorifying to God. I am a huge researcher, as well, and you will find hints of historical romances inspired by true stories in my novels!

  1. Heather-Thank you for bring these great stories to the present. Incredibly inspiring and fascinating! I appreciate your passion for highlighting the human spirit, the hidden strength we all have and the talent to reveal it so beautifully! Your current and past sisters are proud of you!

  2. Your writing is very readable and the stories are fantastic, bringing these women alive today. How can I subscribe?

    • Thanks very much for your kind comments! I could write volumes about these ladies, they were so intriguing! But in our fast-paced world, maybe a few hundred words will be enough to inspire others to look deeper. Blessings!

  3. Nadine Summers

    I love your books

    • Aw, Nadine. You have no idea what a blessing that is to hear. Thank you so much. Really. Writing can be awful lonely sometimes and you wonder if you’re bringing anybody a message, some entertainment, a little escape. Thank you again!

  4. laFonia Simpson

Lady in Defiance is ABSOLUTELY an excellent book I could not put it down, love love this book. EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT WRITING AND STORYTELLING.

    • Oh, my, laFonia! Thank you so much for the kind words. What a blessing you are to me today. I’m not sure if you are aware, but all three of the Defiance books have been optioned for a TV series so maybe one day you’ll see it on Netflix or someplace. I surely would appreciate your prayers for the project! Blessings to you!

  5. I enjoyed reading your book 1 Lady in Defiance. Love the biblical theme and answers for their life’s problems. I like reading westerns ,so when I read your book with faith in it too I was happy to let you know to keep it up!

    • Aw, Cindy, that is so awesome to hear! Thank you so much! You might be interested to know that all three of my Defiance books have been optioned for a limited television series! Praise God. This is far from a done deal, so I sure would appreciate your prayers. I’d love to see my sisters on the little screen walking out their faith and their struggles! Again, thank you so much!

  6. Claudette Eskola

I have enjoyed three of your books. What I like the best is that your characters change because of God and His work in them. I have listened to the first two defiance books and am waiting for the third one to be in audible. I just finished “To Loves and To Honor and was not disappointed. I think I am already on your mailing list

    • Claudette, thank you so much for letting me hear from you. I so appreciate and am humbled by your kind words. The Defiance books are my favorites so far, but I think you might really, really like Grace be a Lady and Hang Your Heart on Christmas, too. They’re kind of in the same vein as Defiance. Thank you for reading and thank you for commenting!

  9. So glad to have “found” you, albeit quite by surprise, while researching information on Agent 355. I came across your post and here I am.

I am also a Western North Carolina girl, from Asheville to be precise. That’s probably why I still love old westerns and my old Southern roots. I can’t wait to get some of your novels to read.

From one North Carolina girl to another, wishing you the best!

  10. Joan Lyons Kearns

I am a new reader and I am caught up on the Defiance series, into Evergreen series just finished Boston reporter story and just started the Jesse Fairbanks’s daughter story. Do you have a site where stories are in some sort of order in which they should be read? I am introducing you into my DWF ladies group at church. I only stop reading when it is too blurry and I have my kindle print as large as it will go. Is there such a thing as binge reading? Fourth quarter is my agency’s slow season, thank goodness! Thank you for all your hard work in producing these great works and I am so happy to have found you! It’s wonderful to be able to read a story cover to cover. Blessings and peace, Joan Lyons Kearns

    • Oh, my goodness, Joan, your kind words are such a blessing! Thank you so very, very much. And I am incredibly honored and humbled that you would tell your ladies group about me. Just give me a yell if you would like me to pop into the group (via Skype) sometime. It would be my pleasure. But to answer your question, yes, here is where you can find my books and the order in which you can read them. And thank you again, Joan! Blessings!

  12. WOW! The Romance in the Rockies series are the first books of yours I have read! AWESOME read and very realistic in portraying our struggles as CHRISTIANS! I loved the series, but wondering if there are more? What happens next for Lane & Hope and what happens next for “Delilah/Victoria”? Just knowing you live near Raleigh, NC warms my heart…our son lives in Raleigh and as we now live in AZ, we don’t get to see him much. We would have planned a trip East this summer, but because of COVID all our travel is on hold for now. Hoping some day things will “settle down” and some form of “normal” prevail. These seem to be desperate times on the surface, but so glad we know the end of HIS-tory when at last there will be peace on earth and THE KING of kings rules and reigns! GOD bless you for sharing your heart in this series! More please! Linda

    • Linda, thank you so much for all those kind words. I have always felt God’s anointing on this series, especially book one, A Lady in Defiance. I have one more book in the series, to finish off Delilah’s tale and smooth things out as best I can. Honestly, though, how do you end a story like Defiance? The script for A Lady in Defiance is being read right now by the gent who produced Lonesome Dove, so, who knows? Lord willing, maybe you’ll see this series on TV. That said, I hope you get to see your son soon. I find myself wondering what normal will look like by fall.

  13. After reading 1-book by an author, I am either in love or not. I’m in LOVE! My first book, A Lady in defiance hooked me. I have read through book three (paperback) and Daughter of Defiance. Today I am waiting for the arrival of book 4&5!! It has been a rough waiting for this day. I am so excited, I can hardly stand it!
    Thank you Heather.
Love from the Rocky Mountains of Montana, Susan

  14. I’m fascinated by this website and as one who lived for 10 years in a house in North in Canada with 3 pregnancies and babies with no running water and ony wood heat I can relate.
